The Department of Children's Literature at Simmons University seeks adjunct instructors to teach Writing for Children II (CHL 431), one section of which will be held at the Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art in Amherst, MA; the other section of which will be held at the University's Boston campus. Interested candidates may apply to teach at one or the other location.

The Spring 2023 semester service dates are January 17, 2023 - May 12, 2023 and classes will be held in person on Tuesday afternoons, from 4:30-7:20 pm. Instructors are also expected to be available to meet with students for office hours, either through video/zoom calls or in person, as needed.

Course Description

Explores the writing of a book through various writing exercises and discussion of student work, and literature in the field. Elements of the picture book, such as illustration, design, format, and specific genres will be examined as they relate to the creation of a solid text.

Requirements
  • MFA or PhD
  • History of publication of creative or informational writing for children and/or young adults
  • Prior teaching experience in higher education (graduate or undergraduate)
